Day 1:
- From Jakarta-Ternate (you will be flying with Garuda Indonesia to Ternate, this flight will use economy class)
- You arrive at Sultan Babullah Airport. Upon arrival, you'll notice that tourism here is still in its infancy: things are a bit chaotic. You'll be picked up & taken to the village of Kampung Fitu for about 45 minutes.
About Ternate & Tidore:
Ternate Island and its sister island, Tidore, are part of the North Maluku region, located opposite North Sulawesi. Both islands are quite small, about 10 kilometers wide, and lie diagonally below each other. Ternate is considered the main island, with an airport. It was once a sultanate, with the Portuguese, Spanish, and Dutch ruling it successively.
Ternate became important to the Dutch East India Company (VOC) because of its cloves. Even today, this spice remains important, and you'll see numerous clove plantations in Ternate and Tidore.
Ternate: In the center lies the Galamala volcano; roads and villages stretch along the coast. There are also several small islands nearby. Ternate exudes tranquility. You'll take a round-trip tour around the island. In Ternate town, you'll see remnants of the VOC era.
Tidore: Just under 1 kilometer away, accessible by small boat. There is also a volcano here, Mount Kiematubu, and it is even quieter than Ternate.
